Today, I participated in an inspiring collage workshop where I discovered how the placement and texture of elements can completely transform an image. It was fascinating to see how small adjustments can significantly impact the overall appearance and message of a collage.
Portrait
During the workshop, I used a single portrait photo to experiment with collage techniques and materials. In the first version, I cut into the face -which may sound a bit unsettling- and wove thick cardboard strips through the openings. This variation in texture and composition changed both the appearance and the tactile quality of the portrait, transforming it into a three-dimensional touchable object.

For the second collage, I took a subtler approach by removing and rearranging small sections of the photo. This maintained the original color and texture while creating a fragmented, puzzle-like effect. The partial removal of the eye reduced the portrait’s intimacy, adding a sense of mystery.

In the third version, I used the same technique with small triangles, creating a playful effect. The eye remained visible, allowing the subject to maintain a strong, direct gaze.

The workshop taught me new techniques and the value of experimentation. It showed how small changes in placement and texture can greatly affect a piece.

I would appreciate your perspective on this. Please feel free to share your thoughts in the comments section—your feedback is valuable to me.
